System i MOUNT Attempt Fails with CPFA0D4 RC3474

Problem

The NFS client for the IBM® System i® products fails to mount. Error message CPFA0D4 RC3474 is received.

Resolving The Problem

Using the NFS client for the IBM® System i® products to MOUNT over an exported file system can result in error message CPFA0D4 with a return code 3474. The 3474 return code is known as EUNKNOWN. It actually comes from the NFS server, not the System i NFS client.

One possible reason for this error is that the System i has multiple interfaces on different Ethernet lines (this is also known as multi-homed). The error is because the System i communicates with the NFS server through an interface that is not expected. A communications trace is needed on the System i to verify this error and to confirm whether or not the error is originating from the NFS server.
